This author is Paco Roca, and he is one of my favourite artists. I discovered him with "Arrugas" (this word means "Wrinkle"), a great comic witch speaks about Alzheimer illness with a raw realism. But it doesn´t only tell us about the consequences of Alzheimer, but it says to us how our elder people are and what they feel.

This comic is full of life stories, of nostalgia, of hope, of pain, of smiles, of love. It counts us the life, in the point of view of our grandparents, their failures, their wishes for going on living, when society says they are unuseful. Then, this comic claims the old age and the right of elder people to be listened by society.
We haven´t to forget them, because they can teach us, and we owe them a lot of things because they worked a lot to live and for we wold live better than them.
Therefore, this is a comic to think about, to learn and to enjoy.

Althought this isn´t his only comic. He also painted "Las calles de arena" ("The Streets of Sand" is the literal tanslation. This comic is completly different, but it speaks about the same idea: the life and the people. And it also speaks about faillures, about wishes. It has the same ingredients, you see, than "Arrugas", but the result isn´t exactly the same.
Then, these two works are very good, witch shows us the same thing in different ways.
And now, go to your nearer bookshop or library and submerge yourself into this great comic.
Advertisement: now Paco Roca has other book ("Emotional World Tour: diarios itinerantes" done with Miguel Gallardo, author of "María y yo" or "Un largo silencio").
And "Arrugas" has some prices, you can see them in this page: http://www.astiberri.com/ficha_prod.php?cod=arrugas
